The colonial difference that appears among them created racialized subjects. Figures such as that of the noble savage are extraordinarily enduring, and despite the constantly changing temporal and spatial contexts, they can still be activated to this day. The questions that colonial authorities explored as part of the imagination of society begin by inquiring who the "Indians" were and how they could ultimately be integrated. From multidisciplinary perspectives, the contributions present case studies for a new understanding of the colonial period, which also includes insights into the present.
