Public Lecture by Sinah Kloß

Sinah Kloß is research group leader of the BCDSS research group "Marking Power: Embodied Dependencies, Haptic Regimes and Body Modification". Her research project discusses the sensory history of body modification and the interrelation of permanence, tactility, religion and servitude in Hindu Indian communities of colonial Suriname, Trinidad and Guyana. In her lecture she explores "Marks of Dependency: Religious Tattooing among Caribbean Hindu Women". Her lecture is part of the ZERG public lecture series, organized by the Centre for Religion and Society (ZERG) and the BCDSS, Research Area C: "Control, Coercion, and Constraint II. The Role of Religion in Overcoming and Creating Structures of Dependency". The lecture series tackles the role of religion in both overcoming existing and creating new forms and types of dependencies. This is a hybrid event. The lecture will also be streamed via youtube.
