Public Lecture by Marion Gymnich
Marion Gymnich is professor for English Literature and Culture at the University of Bonn as well as BCDSS Co-Speaker and principal investigator. In her research project on representations of domestic service, she explores changes and continuities in a wide range of literary and non-fictional depictions and negotiations of asymmetrical dependencies. In her lecture she explores "References to Religion and their Functions in US-American Slave Narratives and Neo-Slave Narratives". Her lecture is part of the public ZERG lecture series, organized by the Centre for Religion and Society (ZERG) and the BCDSS, Research Area C: "Control, Coercion, and Constraint II. The Role of Religion in Overcoming and Creating Structures of Dependency". The lecture series tackles the role of religion in both overcoming existing and creating new forms and types of dependencies. This is a hybrid event. The lecture will also be streamed via youtube.
