This volume explores slavery dynamics from 1500 to 1800 through legal and religious lenses. Turkana Allahverdiyeva examines slavery in the Crimean Khanate, focusing on agency and asymmetrical dependency. Eva Marie Lehner explores religion, slavery and resistance in Cape Town during Dutch colonialism. Bahar Bayraktaroğlu delves into the Ottoman practice of One-Fifth Booty, analyzing its controversies.
