ACADEMIC JOB APPLICATIONS AND NETWORKING
A Workshop offered by Diversity, Equity and Inclusion under Theme A ‘Developing Safe & Inclusive Spaces’
How to tailor the cover letter and the curriculum vitae for an academic job application? Is a photo required? What about a motivational ‘third page’? What does a future research plan include? Academic job applications greatly differ from job applications in the industry, but how?
Description
Excellence, dedication, and discipline do not automatically create academic success. Mani-fold factors impact on academic careers. Apart from an outstanding performance, a high out-put, and an innovative research topic, an academic career is determined by collaborations on both vertical and horizontal levels, on the organizational and the personal level. Field knowledge, academic visibility, and proactive networking play key roles in academic careers. Junior scientists with an expanded network of sponsors and academic contacts increase their chances for (joint) publications, invitations to give a talk, and successful grant applications.
You will be required to prepare and share your cover letter, cv, and academic profile digitally with fellow participants. Remember: confidentiality is an absolute must for the workshop.
